Government Evaluation

Westbank Adventist School and staff completed a full, 2-day government evaluation in 2008. It was completed by an external evaluation team selected by the Ministry of Education. The following are the results of that evaluation.

Commendations
 
It is the opinion of the External Evaluation Committee that the Westbank Adventist School has the following strengths.
 
  • The emphasis on and consciousness of student safety as evidenced in comprehensive policies, the security system and many other details.

  • The family atmosphere and the genuine care for and support of one another and the extent to which this is clearly modeled by staff.

  •  The evidence of positive team work by the Principal and teacher.

  • The comprehensive yearly plans and course overviews and the extent to which these are synchronized with daybooks and display clear linkages to Ministry Learning Outcomes.

  • The use of technology to support learning as well as the web page and e-Mail system to maintain two-way communication with parents and to market the school.

  • The ways in which the School has made adaptations to work with the Authority devised overviews.

 
Policy Issues
 
These are issues intended to strengthen the education program, improve student achievement and student safety.
 
  • All school policies meet government requirements. 

Statutory Requirements
 
These are issues which are part of the legislative requirements of the Independent School Act-Regulations and Order, which must be fulfilled in order for independent Schools to receive classification and funding. Such issues include: safe facility requirements, BC certification, criminal record checks, sufficient instructional time, meeting provincial learning outcomes.
 
  • All school statutory requirements meet government standards.
